ADHD coach, author, trainer, and advocate Leanne Maskell’s book ADHD Works at Work points out that many companies are missing condition-specific processes and procedures – that HR guides for example, are still quite generalist, leaving people teams and managers without guidance on the potential differences in considerations of neurodivergent employees.
As observed in the book Neurodiversity at Work by Amanda Kirby and Theo Smith, those that do have HR guides on neurodivergence tend to focus on challenges without detailing strengths of neurodivergent people, which does not fit well with neuroaffirming practice.
With the help of some friends in HR and employment law therefore, ADHDworking has put together a free to download and use HR Guide Template for use with ADHD employees, which includes:
1. Introduction to ADHD in the Workplace
2. Legal Framework and Compliance
3. Benefits and Challenges for ADHD Employees
4. Reasonable Adjustments and Support
5. Managing and Reporting to Employees with ADHD
6. Advice for Colleagues Working with ADHD Employees
7. Performance Evaluation and Development for ADHD Employees
8. Monitoring and Reporting Discrimination
9. Disclosure and Confidentiality
10. Additional Resources and Support
Please feel free to download the guide and modify it to fit with your company’s policies.
If you would be kind enough to share of its existence, so that more companies might incorporate ADHD specific HR policies, that would of course be very much appreciated.
